FAQs
Embarking on this journey may feel overwhelming, which is why our initial step is to schedule a complimentary consultation where we can assess your space. This allows us to delve into various possibilities together and potentially spark new and innovative ideas.
But before we dive in, let us address some commonly asked questions to provide clarity and guidance.
Your questions answered
Is it expensive to get my garden landscaped?
Designing your ideal garden comes with a price tag, just like any other home improvement project. It's common to underestimate the costs or view outdoor renovations differently. However, just like enhancements made to the interior of your home, landscaping your garden should be seen as a valuable investment that can increase your property's value by 15 to 70%.

For a complete garden transformation, it's advisable to budget between 5-10% of your home's value.

Discussing your preferred budget at the outset of our meeting can be advantageous in aligning our expectations.
Naturally, smaller-scale projects such as fencing tend to come with more budget-friendly costs.
Do I need a garden designer as well as a landscaper?
Designing a garden without a plan can lead to various complications. Putting it on paper ensures that we all have a clear goal in mind. This allows us to ensure that the layouts are tailored to your needs and make any necessary adjustments before any work begins, ultimately saving you time and money. It also ensures that everyone is on the same page regarding what has been agreed upon and included in the pricing.

Fortunately, Woods Landscaping offers an in-house design solution, where we create scale drawings and options after our initial consultation. The advantage of our integrated approach is that we can merge our design expertise with our practical site knowledge to create a garden that not only looks good on paper but also works seamlessly in reality.
How long will my garden take?
A garden makeover project can be influenced by various factors such as size, accessibility, complexity, materials, and of course, the unpredictable British weather.

When providing a quote for your project, we will discuss an estimated start date and a general timeline.
It's important to note that landscapers tend to get booked up months or even years in advance. To ensure your project is completed by a specific date, it's best to kickstart the process as early as possible.
Keep in mind that our inquiries spike significantly when the sun starts shining, so it's wise to start planning your summer garden in the midst of winter.
Do I have to have it all done at once?
Absolutely not. Whether you're simply updating your patio, adding a pergola, creating a nature pond, or refreshing your fencing, landscaping just one area is not a problem.

If you're considering a complete garden makeover in stages, this is absolutely achievable. During the design phase, we carefully prioritise different elements to ensure a smooth and seamless project flow, meaning we are avoiding any disruptions like tracking a digger over a newly laid porcelain patio.

Just a friendly reminder to ensure the safety of any children and pets on site.

And perhaps a cup of tea now and then wouldn't go amiss.
Do I need planning permission?
Typically, landscaping projects do not require planning permission or building control.
However, there are instances where approval from planners may be necessary. For instance, specific regulations govern the conversion of front gardens from soft landscaping to hard standing for vehicles. Certain fencing heights also require permission. But we can help guide you through it.
Can I choose the planting and materials?
Of course! Ultimately, the decision is in your hands, and we are here to provide our expertise in weighing the advantages and disadvantages of different materials.

Our goal is to create a garden that not only looks great now but also stands the test of time. It's important to note that not all plants and materials are suitable for every garden, so we will carefully consider what works best for your unique space.
